Fundación Noelia at the Nano Rare Diseases Day 2025: Advancing Research in Nanomedicine
On March 7, 2025, the Fundación Noelia had the honor of participating in the Nano Rare Diseases Day, held at the Auditorio Plaza of the Sant Joan de Déu University Hospital in Barcelona. This event, organized as part of World Rare Disease Day by the NANOMED Spain platform and the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute, brought together leading experts in nanomedicine to share the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.
The day began with an opening session led by Joan Comella, Director of the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute, and Josep Samitier, Scientific Coordinator of NANOMED Spain and Director of the IBEC (Catalonia Institute for Bioengineering). The presentations covered a wide range of innovations, from new therapeutic strategies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, such as the use of nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery, to the development of innovative biomaterials for tissue regeneration.
Key breakthroughs in the application of nanovesicles in pediatric cancer were also highlighted, aiming to enhance treatment effectiveness while minimizing side effects. Additionally, in the field of rare autoimmune diseases, new nanomedicine-based technologies were presented to help modulate the immune response and improve patients’ quality of life.
Representing the Fundación Noelia, Dr. Eduard Goñalons delivered a presentation titled “Fundación Noelia : A Hope for DMC-Col6 Families”, emphasizing the foundation’s commitment to finding solutions for collagen VI congenital muscular dystrophy (Col6-CMD). His speech underscored the crucial role of collaboration between patient associations and the scientific community in advancing research and developing effective therapies.
The presentation served as a success story of how synergy between families and researchers can drive progress, echoing the words of Jordi Cruz, a trustee of FEDER (Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases). He emphasized that in rare diseases, families play a critical role as advocates of the patient community and key drivers of scientific research and innovation.
The Fundación Noelia’s participation in this event reinforces our mission to support research on Col6-CMD and to promote the search for nanomedicine-based treatments as a pathway to improving the quality of life of patients and their families.
